Philips Healthcare is a global leader in healthcare products and solutions. Working in partnership with their UK team, we’re looking at new ways of improving a child’s experience during a stay in hospital.
Through innovative thinking we’re re-imagining the hospital environment to make it less stressful and intimidating. We recognised that CT scanning can be an extremely unsettling experience for young patients so anything that can help ease the emotional and physical discomfort would be enormously helpful. Distraction therapy is known to reduce sedation by 90%, making for a less stressful experience for the child.
The result was a graphic treatment of the scanning room and scanner itself, the benefits of which are both commercial and priceless.
For the patients, being tasked with a visual challenge during their treatment provides a welcome distraction, helping them to remain calm and still.
This means that their scan can be completed successfully first time, without the need for anaesthetic and an overnight stay (which are both costly and logistically more difficult for the hospital) but also impacts the health and emotional wellbeing of the child.
Medical staff enjoy a more efficient, less stressful process and the CT Scanner is now being rolled-out to children’s hospitals across Europe.
