中心主体为18,000座的多功能演艺空间,通过对灵活分隔等高度融合的科技应用,可形成不同规模和形态的百变观演空间,与能驾驭古典与流行多种表演形式的轩尼诗音乐俱乐部共同构架起奔驰文化中心演艺活动的定位主线。同时约20,000平方米集购物、娱乐、餐饮、休闲于一体的互动体验式综合零售商业区、全天侯带给不同年龄层次宾客美妙梦幻冰上体验的真冰溜冰场、定位时兴、奢华的五星级连锁影城也一应俱全。梅赛德斯-奔驰文化中心在2010年世博会期间,成功举办了绚烂纷呈的世博会开闭幕式以及200多场大型文化演艺活动,观众累计超过200万人次。作为上海这座面向未来的国际化大都市最富有时代气质的文化标杆和卓越典范,奔驰文化中心在真正意义上将观演互动、体育竞技、商业休闲与观光旅游全方位多层次地聚合于一体,创造出了别具一格的“一站式”复合文化娱乐体验。
梅赛德斯-奔驰文化中心所代表的是一种引领于世的全新文化业态,为此上海东方明珠集团公司、美国AEG体育娱乐集团、NBA中国三方强强合作,共同成立了专门的经营管理公司对中心的运营管理进行长线规划,以国际化经营标准打造世界级一流文化演艺场馆。
上海梅赛德斯-奔驰文化中心环境指示系统设计由dotdashThe团队设计,此项目还获得了Sign Design Society协会设计奖,dotdashThe官方项目介绍:Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai was built as a legacy pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and will remain a permanent destination for entertainment and sporting events. The 5 level, 18,000 seat indoor arena includes a music theatre, ice rink, exhibition hall, VIP club, luxury suits, shops, cinemas, cafes, bars and restaurants.
The circular plan of the arena posed an orientation challenge, in that there are no clear corners or changes in direction. The perimeter ‘street’ takes visitors around the building and connects three major entry points with access points to the upper levels.
The wayfinding strategy relies on clearly identifying the North, South and West entry points, coupled with a simple diagrammatic map and directory at arrival points. Distinct level numbering and level directories encourage visitors travel to the various amenities within the building.
A critical part of our strategy included managing and locating the integration of the major sponsor signage to convey the permanence and identity of the arena within its environment.
The signage incorporated messages in Mandarin and English as well as the use of international standard pictograms.
